Update: 2024-12-30 13:28 GMT

Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): On New Year's Eve, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Jalandhar, Ankur Gupta, has issued an order to close all restaurants, clubs, and licensed eateries by midnight. The order, which aims to maintain law and order and ensure public safety within the Police Commissionerate Jalandhar, also restricts the serving of food and beverages after 11:30 pm. No new customers will be allowed entry into these establishments after this time.

As per the order, establishments near liquor shops must shut down by midnight, or in accordance with their license conditions. Additionally, all businesses must comply with sound level limits, maintaining a maximum of 10 (A) dB. Sound sources, including DJs and live performers, must cease or reduce their sound to a minimum by 10 pm, ensuring that noise from any premises does not extend beyond the property boundary after this hour. Similarly, vehicles with music systems must ensure their sound cannot be heard outside the vehicle at any time.

In another order, DCP Gupta has prohibited the use of horns in silence zones, except during public emergencies, and in residential areas between 10 pm and 6 am. The use of sound systems or any other noise-producing equipment near public places must not exceed 10 dB(A). The DCP has also referenced the Hon'ble Supreme Court's order, which mandates that no one shall play drums, horns, or use loudspeakers or DJs between 10 pm and 6 am, except in public emergencies. Noise levels from privately owned sound systems in private spaces should not surpass 5 dB(A), and violations of these rules may result in the confiscation of sound equipment. These regulations will remain in effect until February 25, 2025.
