New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): At Delhi's Jhilmil metro station, CISF personnel prevented an Amritdhari Sikh from boarding a metro train while carrying a sword, or kirpan, sparking outrage within the Sikh community. The incident, captured on video, has led to strong objections from Sikh leaders, including Harmeet Singh Kalka, President of the Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee, and Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee (SGPC).

Kalka condemned the act, labeling it a violation of **Article 25** of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees the freedom to practice religion. He argued that the incident raises serious concerns about religious freedom and constitutional rights. Kalka further stated that the refusal to allow an Amritdhari Sikh to carry his kirpan, a key article of faith for Sikhs, was an attack on religious sentiments.

Harjinder Singh Dhami, also speaking out against the incident, highlighted that the act of denying the Sikh man’s right to carry the kirpan was not only a breach of constitutional rights but also a disregard for the religious practices that Sikhs are required to follow. Amritdhari Sikhs are mandated to wear the five kakars, including the kirpan, which are protected by the Constitution as symbols of their faith.

The Sikh man, who travels daily through Jhilmil station, clarified that his kirpan is under six inches, in accordance with metro security regulations. Despite this, the security personnel refused him entry, leading to the viral video that has now prompted widespread protests and calls for action from the Sikh community.
