Punjab Pollution Control Board Steps Up Efforts to Ban Single-Use Plastic in Patiala

Patiala (The Uttam Hindu): In an ongoing efforts to enforce ban on Single Use Plastic and Plastic carry bags, a meeting was taken by Punjab Pollution Control Board, Regional Office, Patiala with Marriage Palace Association, Patiala and Catering Association, Patiala.

The meeting was held with the Presidents and members of Marriage Palace Association and Catering Association.

The main purpose of the meeting was to create awareness and prevent the use of single-use plastic, in marriage palaces in Patiala district.

Er. Gurkaran Singh, Environmental Engineer informed the members of the association that Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Government of India vide notification number G.S.R 571 (E) dated 12.08.2021 has banned following items from 01 July 2022 throughout the country:

A) Ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice-cream sticks, polystyrene (thermocol) used for decoration.

B) Wrapping or packing films around plates/cups/glasses/cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straws, trays or boxes of sweets, invitation cards, plastic or PVC below 100 microns. Banner, stirrer.

He further informed that the Department of Local Government, Punjab dated 18.02.2016has already completely banned the manufacture, stocking, distribution, recycling, sale or use of plastic carry bags in the jurisdiction of all Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats of the State from April 1, 2016.

In the said meeting, Mr. Gurpreet Singh (Amar Classic), Mr. Dapinder Singh (Grade Square), Mr. Sukhwinder Singh (Kohinoor Palace), Mr. Raj Sethi (Spring Field), Mr. Inderpal Singh (7 Palms), Mr. Navdeep Walia(Lakshmi Palace) and Mr. Goldy, President Catering Association were present.They assured to give full support to make marriage palaces in Districts Patiala single use plastic free. Er. Mohit Singla, Assistant Environmental Engineer and Sh. Rajinder Singh, Senior Assistant, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Regional Office, Patiala were also present on this occasion.
