Employees Forced to Crawl, Wear Straps for Missing Targets; Company Accused of Inhumane Treatment
Kochi (The Uttam Hindu): A marketing firm in Kerala has been accused of abusive behaviour with its employees. A 12-second video viral on social media shows an employee walking on his hands and knees with a leash around his neck. He is then forced to lick a coin kept in a plate. It is alleged that this punishment was given to those employees who could not meet their targets.
After the video surfaced, the Kerala government has taken a tough stand in the matter. Labor Minister V. Sivankutty described the incident as "shocking and disturbing" and ordered the District Labor Officer to investigate immediately and submit a report. He said that such incidents will not be tolerated at any cost in a state like Kerala.
The incident is said to have taken place at a firm located in Perumbavoor, while it is linked to a marketing company in Kaloor. According to the police, no official complaint has been filed in the matter yet, but investigations are underway.
Meanwhile, the State Human Rights Commission and the Kerala State Youth Commission have also taken cognizance of the matter. The Human Rights Commission has initiated action on the complaint of High Court lawyer Kulathoor Jaisingh. At the same time, the Youth Commission has summoned a report from the District Police Chief. Commission Chairman M. Shajar said that such incidents cannot be tolerated in a democratic society and strict legal action should be taken against the culprits.
