Horrific murder over unflushed toilet in Delhi: E-rickshaw driver brutally stabbed to death in bloody dispute
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A deadly altercation in Govindpuri, southeast Delhi, resulted in the murder of a 19-year-old e-rickshaw driver, with his brother and friend also injured, following a dispute over an unflushed toilet. The victims and the accused, a family of five, were tenants in the same building and shared a common bathroom. Police have arrested the entire family, including a minor. The incident has raised concerns about rising violence in the area, with Delhi's Chief Minister visiting the victim's family to express condolences and criticize the law and order situation.
The tragedy unfolded late Friday night when Sudheer, his brother Prem, and their friend Sagar had an argument with a family living on the first floor of the building over the shared toilet not being flushed. The disagreement quickly escalated, and Bhikam Singh, his wife Meena, and their three sons—Sanjay (20), Rahul (18), and a minor—attacked the three men with rods and knives.
Sudheer was repeatedly stabbed in the chest, face, and scalp, leading to his death despite being rushed to the hospital. Prem remains in critical condition, while Sagar was treated for his injuries and discharged.
Sudheer, originally from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, lived with his brother and paid ₹3,000 monthly rent for their accommodation. Bhikam Singh, a worker at a building materials shop, had recently moved into the building.
A murder case has been filed, and all members of Bhikam Singh’s family have been detained for investigation.
This shocking incident has drawn attention to the increasing concerns about safety and crime in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi visited the victim's family at AIIMS on Saturday, expressing her condolences and criticizing the central government for its failure to maintain law and order.
“The BJP-led central government has one job in Delhi—to ensure law and order and provide security to the people. But it has completely failed in this regard,” Atishi said on her X handle. “Firing, murders, and extortion have become daily occurrences, and criminals no longer fear the police. People are unsafe, both inside and outside their homes.”
Atishi urged the central government to take immediate action to restore peace and safety in the capital, warning that the people of Delhi would hold them accountable if the situation didn’t improve.
