Heartless Mother Sells 30-Day-Old Baby for ₹1.5 Lakh to Settle Husband's Debts – Infant Rescued in Shocking Police Sting
Ramanagara (The Uttam Hindu): A 40-year-old woman has been arrested for selling her 30-day-old baby for ₹1.5 lakh to settle her husband's debts. The woman, along with two accomplices and the buyer, was apprehended by the police in Ramanagara. The baby has been rescued and placed in a child welfare home in Mandya. The woman’s husband had filed a missing person report on December 7, suspecting his wife’s involvement in the disappearance of their newborn. The couple, daily-wage workers, already had five children and were struggling with significant debt.
The husband shared with the police that he had debts exceeding ₹3 lakh and that his wife had suggested selling their newborn to a childless couple to settle the debts. However, he had rejected the idea. On the evening of December 5, the baby went missing. The husband returned from work to find the child gone. His wife claimed that she had sent the baby to a doctor with a relative due to health issues. Believing her, he ate dinner and went to sleep. However, when he returned home the next night, the baby was still missing. His wife repeated the same story but became evasive when he asked for the contact details of the doctor or relative. Suspicious, the husband confronted her, resulting in a fight that left him with a head injury.
The husband then filed a complaint with the police. Investigators, suspecting foul play, visited the wife, who initially tried to mislead them. However, when questioned further, she admitted to selling the baby for ₹1.5 lakh to a single woman in Bengaluru. The police, accompanied by the mother, traveled to Bengaluru, where they recovered the infant. The mother, two accomplices, and the buyer were arrested.
