Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu): A serious accident occurred in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, where an Army vehicle plunged into a deep gorge near the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday evening. The incident took place in the Balnoi area of the Mankot sector in the Mendhar sub-division. According to reports, five soldiers were martyred, and more than 10 others were injured in the crash.

Some of the injured soldiers are in critical condition and have been admitted to the hospital, while there are concerns about potential fatalities, although no official confirmation has been made so far. The soldiers were en route to their post when the driver of the vehicle lost control, causing it to fall into a 300-foot deep gorge. The vehicle was reportedly carrying soldiers to their post when it suddenly veered off course and plunged into the gorge. Following the incident, a relief and rescue team quickly reached the location and began efforts to rescue the trapped soldiers.

The cause of the vehicle losing control is still under investigation, and the rescue operation is ongoing. Authorities are continuing their efforts to provide aid and ensure the safety of the injured soldiers. This tragic incident adds to a similar one that occurred last month in Jammu and Kashmir, where one soldier lost his life and others were injured in a similar accident.
