Alert issued for fog and cold wave in Punjab, weather to change soon

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): An alert has been issued for fog in Punjab with the meteorological department also warning of a cold wave in several areas. After 48 hours of dry weather the sun came out on the previous day, leading to an increase in temperature and providing some relief from the cold. However, the state's temperature is still below 20 degrees Celsius.

Fog alert in these areas

The weather department has issued an orange alert for fog in 10 districts of Punjab including Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala and Malerkotla. Yellow alerts have been issued for all other districts.

Cold wave alert in these areas

A cold wave orange alert has been issued for Mansa and Barnala. Meanwhile, a yellow alert for cold wave has been issued for Rupnagar, Bathinda, Moga, Muktasar Sahib, Faridkot, Fazilka, Firozpur, Nawanshahr and Hoshiarpur. The western disturbance has become active in the state from January 18.

Rain forecast

There is a possibility of rain in some parts of Punjab on January 21 and 22. Since January 1, the state has experienced normal rainfall. According to the meteorological department, the average rainfall since January 1 has been 9.2 mm. Punjab has received 8.3 mm of rainfall so far which is 9% less than normal.
