Kupwara (The Uttam Hindu): In a heartbreaking incident, Agniveer Lovepreet Singh (24) from Punjab’s Mansa district was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Lovepreet, who joined the Indian Army as an Agniveer two years ago, succumbed to his injuries at around 3 pm.

His mortal remains will reach his native village on Thursday, where he will be laid to rest with full military honours. The atmosphere in Akalia village is one of both immense sorrow and pride as locals prepare to bid a final farewell to their brave son.
Villagers remembered Lovepreet as a bright and dedicated youth who brought honour to the village through his service in the Indian Army. “His sacrifice for the nation will always be cherished,” they said, adding that his bravery had left a lasting impact on the community. Residents have called on the Central Government to reform the Agniveer scheme, advocating for equal benefits for Agniveers as other military personnel. They also urged the government to provide adequate support to the families of martyrs, ensuring their financial stability and overall well-being.
