Be Careful If You Drink Tea on an Empty Stomach as Soon as You Wake Up
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Drinking tea immediately after waking up on an empty stomach may not be the healthiest choice, especially if it’s a habit you follow regularly. While tea can offer many health benefits, consuming it first thing in the morning without food can cause some issues, including:
Increased Acidity: Tea, especially black or green tea, contains tannins that can increase stomach acidity, leading to irritation or even gastric problems, such as acid reflux or heartburn.
Digestive Discomfort: Drinking tea on an empty stomach may disrupt the digestive process, making it harder for your stomach to properly absorb nutrients from your food later on.
Reduced Iron Absorption: The tannins in tea can interfere with the absorption of iron from plant-based foods. If you’re having tea first thing, it may hinder the body's ability to absorb iron properly from your breakfast.
Nausea and Dizziness: For some people, drinking tea on an empty stomach can cause nausea or dizziness due to the stimulation of gastric acid without food to buffer it.
Tip: If you prefer having tea in the morning, consider having a light breakfast first or waiting 30 minutes after waking up before drinking your tea. This will help prevent the negative effects and allow you to enjoy your tea in a healthier way.
