New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal made another significant announcement. He revealed that Hindu priests and granthis (those who care for the sacred texts) at Gurudwaras will receive a monthly honorarium of ₹18,000 as part of the new Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana. While launching this scheme, Kejriwal mentioned that the BJP had tried to halt every announcement he made, and if they attempt to stop this initiative as well, it will bring them bad karma. He further stated that on December 31, he would visit the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place and start the registration process for priests.

Kejriwal emphasized that this scheme is for those who have contributed the most to society but have never received proper attention. He pointed out that no government or political party has ever acknowledged their efforts. He explained, "Whether it's a joyous occasion or a sad one, whether it’s a wedding, a child's birthday, or a death, priests have always been there for us. They have carried forward our traditions from generation to generation, but they’ve never focused on their own families, and neither have we given them due recognition." He added that although people visit temples for prayers, they have seldom paid attention to the priests.

In his announcement, Kejriwal clarified that this will not be a salary but an honorarium, and ₹18,000 will be given monthly to priests and granthis. The registration process will begin the next day, which he will personally oversee at the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place. Kejriwal assured that once the AAP government is formed after the elections, the scheme will be implemented immediately.
