New EV policy hits pause in Delhi old rules stay for 3 more months
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Before the announcement of Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0 in the capital, the existing policy has been given an extension of three months. This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Transport Minister Pankaj Singh clarified that the current EV policy will remain effective until the next policy is implemented.
New EV policy will not be implemented in Delhi right now, existing policy gets 3 month extension : The draft of the new policy is under review, which includes two-wheelers, three-wheelers, autos, freight carriers, buses and municipal vehicles. The new policy aims to strengthen charging and battery swapping infrastructure and facilitate 100% recharging by 2030.
According to the draft, registration of CNG autos will be banned from August 15, 2025, and it will be mandatory to convert autos older than 10 years into electric. Also, registration of non-electric two-wheelers can also be stopped from August 2026. Strict provisions have also been made for private car owners - the third car can only be electric.
