Atishi Appointed Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, AAP Announces
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Atishi, the former Delhi Chief Minister, has been appointed the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. The decision was made during the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) legislative party meeting held at the party headquarters on Sunday, where all elected MLAs unanimously chose her for the position. Atishi, who represents the Kalkaji constituency, will now serve as the opposition leader in the Delhi Assembly.
Her selection comes after a period of rising prominence within the party, especially after she took on the role of Chief Minister following Arvind Kejriwal's resignation. While top party leaders like Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Saurabh Bhardwaj faced defeats in the assembly elections, Atishi managed to retain her seat in Kalkaji. Due to her strong leadership and status as a prominent female face of the party, her name was put forward and approved for the role of Leader of the Atishi Appointed Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, AAP AnnouncesOpposition.
Atishi will now lead AAP’s opposition against the newly appointed Chief Minister of Delhi from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rekha Gupta, an MLA from Shalimar Bagh.
In the aftermath of the Delhi Assembly election defeat, AAP is currently reviewing its performance. The party plans to conduct an audit to assess the contributions of its office bearers at various levels, including the Lok Sabha, Assembly, District, and Ward organizations. According to AAP Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai, the party will reorganize all its wings and formulate a new strategy to strengthen its presence across Delhi. The internal review and reorganization efforts aim to address shortcomings and ensure the party’s growth and influence moving forward.
