PM Awas Yojana Portal Reopens in Punjab After 3 Years, 11,000 Applications Filed in a Week
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The long wait for people in Punjab to build houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2.0 is finally over, as the central government has reopened the portal after three years. Following the portal's reopening, there has been a surge of applications in the state, with over 11,000 applications received within just a week. On average, more than 1,500 people are applying each day. As a result, the state government has increased its target for building houses under the scheme from 2.5 lakh to 3 lakh.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries receive financial assistance to build two rooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen. The state government has raised its share of the subsidy from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh, while the central government will continue to contribute Rs 1.5 lakh as before.
In the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) category, the state government will also provide a subsidy of Rs 1 lakh, while the central government will continue its contribution of Rs 1.5 lakh. The affordable houses will be constructed by both public and private entities and will be made available to economically weaker sections (EWS) beneficiaries through financial assistance.
