CRACKDOWN ON DRUG MAFIA: Punjab Police Seize Properties, Recover Heroin Worth Crores

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu) : In a major crackdown on the drug mafia, the Punjab Police have attached properties worth crores of rupees belonging to notorious drug smugglers in Jalandhar and Fatehgarh Sahib districts. The police action, which was carried out under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, is part of the state government's efforts to eliminate the scourge of drugs from Punjab.

23kg Heroin Recovered in Amritsar

In a separate operation, the Amritsar Police recovered 23 kilograms of heroin, valued at several crores of rupees, from a suspected drug smuggler. The accused, who was arrested on the spot, has been identified as a key player in the international drug trafficking network.

Properties Attached in Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib

The properties attached by the police in Jalandhar and Fatehgarh Sahib districts include luxurious houses, commercial buildings, and agricultural land. The owners of these properties have been identified as notorious drug smugglers who have been evading arrest for years.

Punjab Police Chief Hails Crackdown

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta hailed the crackdown on drug smugglers, saying it was a major blow to the drug mafia. "We will continue to target the drug smugglers and their properties until the scourge of drugs is eliminated from Punjab," he said.

State Government's War on Drugs

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, has launched a multi-pronged attack on the drug mafia. The government has set up a special task force to tackle the menace of drugs and has also launched a awareness campaign to educate the youth about the dangers of drug addiction.
