Visually Impaired Man Steals 4 kg Gold in Dubai, Arrested at Bengaluru Airport
Bengaluru (The Uttam Hindu): A visually impaired man was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport for smuggling gold worth ₹3.4 crore. The arrest was made by Bengaluru Air Customs officials on March 4 after receiving specific intelligence. Officials discovered 3,995.22 grams of gold concealed under his shirt. A case of smuggling has been registered against him, and he has been sent to judicial custody.
This arrest comes just a day after the detention of Karnataka actress Ranya Rao, who was caught smuggling 14.2 kg of gold worth ₹12.56 crore. She arrived in Bengaluru from Dubai and was found carrying gold bars hidden in a belt wrapped around her body, along with 800 grams of gold jewelry.
Authorities grew suspicious of Ranya’s frequent international travel, as she had visited Gulf countries more than 10 times since the start of the year. Investigators found that she had made four such trips in just 15 days, each time wearing similar attire with a hidden belt.
Officials believe both arrests are linked to a larger gold smuggling network operating through Bengaluru airport. Investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the syndicate.
