Tragic Toll of Competition: 20-Year-Old Ends Life After MBBS Seat Rejection Leads to Despair

Vijayawada (The Uttam Hindu): A 20-year-old student committed suicide by jumping from a moving train near Rayadurgam in Anantapur on Wednesday. She was very upset after not getting admission in MBBS, despite getting a seat in the Ayurveda College in Chittadurg. The deceased, Tanuja, hailed from Sedam town in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka. After not getting an MBBS seat, she went to Chittadurg on Tuesday morning and took admission in the Ayurvedic Medical Science course. On Tuesday afternoon, she boarded a train from Bengaluru to Hospet via Rayadurgam.

According to the Government Railway Police, Tanuja contacted her parents at 1 pm during the journey and told them that she had failed to get an MBBS seat and was about to commit suicide. Worried, her parents made several attempts to contact her but failed, after which they informed the Karnataka Police. The police started searching for her using her mobile phone location. Following this, Tanuja jumped off the speeding train from near a garden on the outskirts of Rayadurgam.


She suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. A railway gangman, Nagesh, found her body near the track on Wednesday morning. Guntakal GRP SI Mahendra and his team collected Tanuja's mobile phone and other evidence. After confirming her identity, they informed her family.
