Adelaide (The Uttam Hindu): A devastating incident occurred on a cricket field in Adelaide, where a player, Junaid Zafar Khan, suffered a fatal collapse due to extreme heat. The match was being played at Concordia College, with temperatures soaring to 41.7 degrees Celsius. According to reports, Khan, a Pakistani-origin cricketer, had fielded for 40 overs and scored an unbeaten 16 runs before collapsing on the pitch at around 4 pm local time. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he sadly did not survive. Khan, who moved to Adelaide from Pakistan in 2013, was observing Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting. However, a friend revealed that he had been drinking water throughout the day, as Muslims are allowed to do so during Ramadan if they feel unwell.

The Old Concordians' Cricket Club released a statement expressing their deep sadness over the loss of their valued member. The statement extended heartfelt condolences to Khan's family, friends, and teammates. It's worth noting that the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association rules state that games are cancelled if the temperature exceeds 42C. However, matches can be played in conditions up to 40C, with special measures in place, such as extra breaks for players to rehydrate and take a break from the heat.
