Ahmedabad (The Uttam Hindu): Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been fined after his side was found guilty of maintaining a slow over rate against Delhi Capitals in Match No. 35 of IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

"As it was his team's first offence this season, Gill has been fined Rs 12 lakh under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over rate offences," the IPL said in a statement. Gill now joins the list of captains who have been penalised for slow over rates this season, including Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals), Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals), Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants), Riyan Parag (RR) and Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians). However, unlike last year, this time the IPL has done away with player bans for repeat offences and has instead introduced fines, demerit points and in-game penalties.

Gill decided to bowl first in hot conditions in Ahmedabad, where the maximum temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius. The players faced a lot of difficulties due to the hot weather and there were several interruptions in the game. Delhi scored 203 runs for 8 wickets, chasing which Gujarat won the match with seven wickets and four balls to spare. Jos Buttler was named Player of the Match for scoring an unbeaten 97 runs in 54 balls. With this win, Gujarat has reached the top of the points table. It has equal 10 points with Delhi after winning five out of seven matches, but Gujarat is ahead on the basis of net run rate. This match marks the halfway mark of the league stage, where all 10 teams have played seven matches each.
