Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Comedian Samay Raina continues to face mounting legal trouble following his controversial remarks in the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show. The Supreme Court has taken serious note of allegations that Raina mocked individuals with disabilities, including a person who had lost an eye and a two-month-old infant in need of life-saving treatment for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

In a recent hearing, the Supreme Court ordered that Samay Raina be formally made a party to the case. The court also accepted into record a video clip in which the comedian allegedly ridicules the high cost of SMA treatment, referencing Zolgensma — a therapy that costs approximately ₹16 crore. During the performance, Raina reportedly joked about a mother receiving such an amount while raising a critically ill child, drawing widespread criticism.

The case was brought forward by the Cure SMA Foundation of India, which informed the court of Raina's repeated insensitive remarks regarding disabled individuals. Justice Suryakant, heading the bench, expressed deep concern, stating, “We are really disturbed by these allegations and would like to place these incidents on record.”

Justice Suryakant further requested that any videos and transcripts related to the allegations be submitted, and directed that all relevant individuals be made parties in the case. The court also asked for possible remedies to be suggested, indicating a willingness to take firm action after reviewing the material.

This is not the first time Samay Raina has come under fire. He was recently criticized for offensive comments about parents and children in the same comedy show.
