Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi awarded IAS officer Jalaj Sharma the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award 2023 at the Civil Services Day function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Sharma, a 2014 batch IAS officer from the Maharashtra cadre and currently serving as District Collector of Nashik, received this honor for his significant contributions to the holistic development of Nashik, a city known for its religious and cultural importance.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted the importance of integrity, discipline and dedication among civil servants. He stressed that modern governance requires adaptability and called on officers to align their work with India’s growing aspirations, especially in sectors like clean energy, space, sports and national security.
Jalaj Sharma, who hails from Chandigarh, expressed his gratitude after receiving the award. He said, “When one has a positive mindset and unwavering dedication to public service, success follows. During my tenure in Nashik, I focused on developing the city while preserving its spiritual and cultural heritage, especially as the land associated with Lord Shiva and Lord Ram.”
He also mentioned that the award is a result of the collective support of the people of Nashik and credited their blessings and cooperation. Looking ahead to the 2027 Maha Kumbh, he assured citizens of comprehensive development and top-class facilities for visitors. He called the recognition a matter of great pride and inspiration.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini congratulated Sharma, stating that his award reflects his tireless efforts, positive vision, and dedication to the people. The award, he said, sets a benchmark for other officers in the civil services. Sharma's parents — Ram Bhagat Sharma, retired Additional Director from Haryana’s Public Relations Department, and Rupa Rani Sharma, a retired architect — also expressed their joy. “Winning the PM Award is a dream for every IAS officer. We are proud that our son fulfilled that dream with honesty and devotion,” they said.
