Putin Signals Peace: Offers Talks to Ukraine Amid Global and Domestic Pressure
Moscow (The Uttam Hindu): The war that has been going on for two and a half years between Russia and Ukraine is now at a turning point. For the first time, Russian President Vladimir Putin has openly proposed peace talks to Ukraine. This initiative is being considered a step taken amid domestic discontent, indiscipline of soldiers, economic pressure and US pressure. Putin has offered to stop the war for the second time after the unilateral Easter ceasefire, on which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has given positive signals.
The war will end! Putin did a U-turn amidst Trump's pressure, war fatigue and domestic anger; offered peace talks to Ukraine: Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready for any dialogue in exchange for stopping attacks on civilian targets. America and European countries are constantly putting pressure on both the countries for talks. Former President Donald Trump himself has warned that if the talks do not move forward, America will distance itself from the peace efforts.
Behind this peace proposal, Russia's many problems are visible - such as the increasing cost of war, decreasing number of soldiers, nervousness about recruitment among the youth, and the seizure of Russia's assets worth $ 300 billion by Western countries. All these have together influenced Putin's strategy. However, experts believe that Putin's move may not be with the intention of ending the war completely, but may be a strategy to strike a balance with military and diplomatic benefits.
