Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Mumbai Indians superstar batsman Suryakumar Yadav on Sunday became the second fastest player to score 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in terms of balls. He achieved this feat in Match 45 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium here.

Suryakumar, who came to bat at the score of 88/2 of Mumbai Indians, hit a six off spinner Ravi Bishnoi and then hit two consecutive fours. Apart from this, he also sent Avesh Khan across the boundary. In this way he completed his 4000 runs in IPL.

He scored 4000 runs in 2714 balls and is the second fastest player in this list. Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers jointly achieved this feat. Both achieved this feat in 2658 balls. Former Australian opener David Warner completed his 4000 runs in 2809 balls, while Chennai Super Kings veteran Suresh Raina achieved this milestone in 2886 balls. They are among the top five in the list.

He hit his first four in the afternoon against the pace of Mayank Yadav and his first six of the day against Bishnoi over deep midwicket in the 11th over. His stunning six off Prince Yadav in the 15th over was his best shot of the day as he got down on one knee to a length ball outside off and hooked it to deep fine leg. Suryakumar, who has moulded his batting style into a 360-degree player just like South African legend de Villiers, reached his 50 off 27 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes. He was dismissed off the next ball, mistiming a wide fullish delivery to extra cover. But his brilliant innings on Sunday helped him get the Orange Cap with 417 runs in 10 matches at an average of 69.50 and a strike rate of 170.20.
