Dowry Demand Turns Deadly: Woman Strangled to Death in Hapur
Hapur (The Uttam Hindu): A horrific incident of dowry harassment has come to light in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur, where a 26-year-old woman was strangled to death by her husband and in-laws. The victim, Sajiya, was allegedly subjected to continuous harassment by her husband Zeeshan and his family members, including Nafees, Farman, Irfan, Reshma and Tasleem, for a dowry of four lakh rupees.
Sajiya had been married to Zeeshan in 2021 and had two daughters with him. However, the dowry demands and harassment began soon after the marriage. Despite giving birth to two daughters, the accused did not stop harassing her. Sajiya was forced to live with her parents due to the constant harassment. In August 2023, Zeeshan had attempted to kill Sajiya by shooting her in the neck. She miraculously survived the attack, and Zeeshan was arrested and imprisoned. However, after apologizing and spending about two months in jail, Zeeshan was granted bail. He took Sajiya and her daughters back to his house, but the harassment continued.
On April 24, Zeeshan forcibly took Sajiya to Garhmukteshwar, where he allegedly strangled her to death. Her body was found in a garden near Meera Ki Reti on Sunday morning. A case has been registered against Zeeshan and his family members, and the police are searching for the accused. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. The police have assured that the case will be investigated impartially, and the culprits will be punished. The Inspector in charge of the Garhmukteshwar Police Station, Neeraj Kumar, has stated that the accused will be arrested soon, and the case will be thoroughly investigated.
