Georgia (The Uttam Hindu): Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, passed away peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia at the age of 100 on Sunday (US local time). His son, James E. Carter III, confirmed his death but did not disclose a cause. After battling an aggressive form of melanoma that spread to his liver and brain, Carter opted for hospice care in February 2023, spending his final months at home. He was last seen publicly on October 1, marking his 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends during a flyover celebration.

A lifelong humanitarian, Carter is remembered for his significant achievements during and after his presidency. He brokered the Camp David Accords securing a lasting peace treaty between Israel and Egypt and advanced US relations with Latin America through the Panama Canal treaties. His presidency also emphasized human rights as a cornerstone of American foreign policy granting full diplomatic recognition to China and earning him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his tireless work in international conflict resolution, democracy and social development.

Carter’s legacy extends beyond politics as a Navy veteran, peanut farmer and governor of Georgia. He remains a symbol of humility, leadership and commitment to public service. The world mourns the loss of a statesman who dedicated his life to peace and the betterment of humanity.
