Handwara (The Uttam Hindu): A major terror plot was foiled in Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday morning when a suspicious explosive device was found in the Langet area of Handwara, North Kashmir, which falls under the Kupwara district. The development triggered panic, but authorities swung into action to neutralise the threat.

The local police and the National Rifles (Army) said that a joint team of both discovered the suspicious device on the Baramulla-Handwara road. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned to the spot after discovering the suspicious device. The traffic in the area was stopped, and people were kept away from the spot in view of public safety.

The BDS team was able to neutralize the explosive device and, subsequently, normalcy returned with the opening of the road. Authorities have lauded the swift and integrated response by the security forces to prevent a possible catastrophe. No loss of life or injuries were reported in this case.

This is the second recent instance of the forces' vigilance against the threat of terror in the region as they continue to keep the situation under check in Jammu and Kashmir.
