Israel Escalates Violence with Major Airstrike, 60+ Dead as UN Ceasefire Debate Continues
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): 158 countries including India voted in favour of the proposal for immediate ceasefire in Gaza in the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday. This proposal demands immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Along with this, emphasis has also been laid on unconditional release of all hostages.
Ukraine and 12 countries kept away from the voting process. Meanwhile, Israel once again wreaked havoc in Gaza and carried out a major air strike on a relief camp. At least 60 people have died in this attack, while more than 50 people were also seriously injured.
The Israeli army attacked a post office in the Nusserat camp, where displaced families had taken refuge. Nusserat is one of Gaza's eight historic relief camps built in 1948 for Palestinian refugees. It is a densely populated area filled with displaced people affected by the war.
