India Braces for More Deportees as Two US Flights Carrying Illegal Immigrants Set to Land
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): As Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues his visit to the United States, two more flights carrying illegal Indian immigrants are set to arrive in India. According to official sources, the first plane carrying 119 deported individuals is scheduled to land at Amritsar Airport on February 15 at 10 PM, while another flight will arrive the next day, February 16 at a yet-to-be-disclosed location.
This group marks the second batch of Indian nationals being deported by the US government under its ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration. Reports indicate that among the 119 individuals, 67 hail from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, eight from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, two each from Goa, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, while one each belongs to Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
The deportation comes as part of stricter immigration policies enforced by US authorities particularly under former President Donald Trump’s administration. The rising number of deportations has sparked discussions on the challenges faced by Indians seeking to settle illegally in the US, as well as the measures required to curb illegal migration.
The Indian government is expected to provide assistance and reintegration support for those returning. More details regarding the second flight’s arrival location and additional deportation measures are anticipated in the coming days.
