Meerut, Uttar Pradesh (The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old boy in Meerut has been detained for allegedly murdering his close friend Abhinav with a hammer over stolen videos and pictures of his girlfriend. The accused confessed to the crime during police interrogation revealing that Abhinav had stolen private videos of his girlfriend from his phone and was blackmailing her.

Both teenagers, Class 11 and 12 students and neighbors, were preparing for engineering entrance exams and attended the same coaching center. They often traveled together, with Abhinav riding a scooter and the accused accompanying him as a pillion rider. On Saturday, the two left for coaching but Abhinav did not return home. His family filed a missing person complaint suspecting foul play involving the accused.

During the investigation, CCTV footage confirmed that the two were last seen together. Upon being questioned, the accused confessed to murdering Abhinav near a tubewell. According to the accused, he lured Abhinav under the pretext of selling his phone. After selling the phone for ₹8,000 and dining at a restaurant the two stopped at a tubewell. The accused then attacked Abhinav with a hammer hitting him repeatedly until he succumbed to his injuries.

Abhinav’s family has refused to cremate his body until justice is served. His relatives suspect that others might be involved in the crime and have demanded further investigation. "Police should not mislead us. They should tell us the truth and arrest everyone involved," said Abhinav's relative Kuldeep.

Meerut City SP Ayush Vikram Singh stated, "The accused has confessed that he was upset after Abhinav stole private videos and blackmailed his girlfriend. We have recovered the body and the hammer. The accused, being a minor, will be presented in court. We are scanning CCTV footage to ascertain if others were involved, and we will take appropriate action." The case has left the local community shaken, with calls for justice mounting as investigations continue.
