Eyes That Once Sparkled Now See Darkness: Classroom Punishment Horror
Chikkaballapur, Karnataka (The Uttam Hindu): A deeply disturbing incident has come to light from Chintamani taluka in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district, where a six-year-old boy lost vision in his right eye after being struck by a stick allegedly thrown by a school teacher.
The incident occurred on March 6 last year at a government school when Yashwant, a Class 1 student, was among a group of children making noise in the classroom. In an attempt to discipline the students, the teacher reportedly threw a stick that accidentally hit Yashwant in the eye. Initially, the child’s parents did not anticipate the severity of the injury. However, as his condition worsened in the following days, they sought medical help. After consultations with an ophthalmologist in Chintamani and further referrals, Yashwant underwent two eye surgeries at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru in December. Despite efforts to save his vision, doctors at a private hospital in Bengaluru later confirmed that Yashwant had permanently lost vision in his right eye.
The incident sparked outrage in the local community. On Sunday evening, Yashwant’s family and concerned residents staged a protest outside Batlahalli police station, demanding accountability and action. Following the protest, the police registered a case against the accused teacher and five others, including the Block Education Officer, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure justice for the child and his family.
