Dense Fog Derails Train Schedules: 18 Trains, Including Avadh Express and Lucknow Mail, Delayed
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): North India is experiencing the onset of dense fog, disrupting traffic and affecting daily life. The capital city, Delhi, was shrouded in thick fog today, significantly impacting rail operations. According to the Indian Railways, 18 trains traveling to Delhi from various parts of the country, including Avadh-Assam Express, Lucknow Mail, and Satyagraha Express, are running late due to the fog. However, Delhi airport officials have reported normal flight operations, despite low visibility. Some flight disruptions were noted on December 25.
Meteorologists predict dense fog in Delhi during late-night and morning hours from December 26 to 28, accompanied by partly cloudy skies and the possibility of light rain in the evening or night. Morning surface winds are expected to blow from the northeast at a speed of less than 4 km/h.
On the pollution front, Delhi's air quality remains in the "very poor" category. On Christmas Day, the 24-hour Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 336, and today's average AQI stands at 343, according to the 6 am update. This marks the third consecutive day of "very poor" air quality, following a period when it was classified as "severe," as per the Central Pollution Control Board.
