Court Turns Down Bail Request for ISKCON Priest Chinmay Krishna Das, Date Set for January 2
Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): Bangladesh ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das has suffered a major setback. A Bangladesh court has rejected his bail plea. The court said that it will hear the case next on January 2. The court had earlier rejected his bail plea on November 26. Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested on November 25 on charges of treason.
Big blow to ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, court rejects bail plea: Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge Mohammad Saiful Islam said on Wednesday that Chinmoy Krishna Das's petition was rejected because he did not have a letter of attorney from any lawyer. After this, senior Bangladesh Supreme Court lawyer and human rights activist Rabindra Ghosh went to Chittagong and submitted a petition in the court for Chinmoy Krishna Das. When Ghosh requested for an advance hearing in the court, other lawyers opposed it and said that Ghosh did not have any Vakalatnama to represent Chinmoy Krishna Das. After this the court rejected Das's petition.
