Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant political development ahead of the Municipal Corporation elections, Jalandhar Mayor Jagdish Raja and Ward 65 Councillor Anita Raja have joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The decision marks a major blow to the Congress Party and strengthens AAP’s position in Jalandhar.

Jagdish Raja, representing Ward 64, has been a prominent figure in local governance, serving as a councillor since 1991. Anita Raja, currently a councillor and a former Senior Deputy Mayor, has also had a long-standing influence in the city’s politics. CM Bhagwant Mann also welcomed both the leaders to the AAP family. Minister and Jalandhar West MLA Mohinder Bhagat and AAP Punjab Working President Amansher Singh Sharry Kalsi were also present.

Welcoming the new members, CM Bhagwant Mann stated, "This is a testament to AAP’s growing credibility among people who are committed to honest politics. Jagdish Raja and Anita Raja’s experience will strengthen AAP’s mission to win and deliver transparent governance in Jalandhar."

AAP Punjab Working President Amansher Singh Sharry Kalsi said that the Aam Aadmi Party is rapidly gaining ground across Punjab with its focus on public welfare and new leaders are joining us ahead of local body elections because they know only the AAP offers a platform for the politics of work. He added that this growing momentum is a clear indication of AAP’s appeal to leaders and voters alike, as the party promises a brighter and more accountable future for urban governance in Punjab.
