BJP Woos Delhi with Free Electricity, Women’s Schemes, and Support for Religious Sites
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): With assembly elections in Delhi scheduled for next month the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ramping up efforts to secure a win. According to sources, the BJP is considering a range of populist measures including offering 300 units of free electricity to Delhi residents.
The party is also planning to extend this benefit to religious institutions such as temples and gurudwaras with a provision of up to 500 units of free electricity. Additionally, the BJP may announce a women-centric scheme similar to the Ladli Behan scheme and pledge to supply free clean water through pipelines.
AAP’s Election Promises in Full Swing
In this high-stakes election season, parties are vying to attract voters with a slew of announcements. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has unveiled several schemes over the past month targeting various demographics including women, the elderly, auto drivers and religious leaders.
AAP’s key promises include the Sanjeevani Scheme for the elderly ₹2,100 monthly allowance for women, ₹10 lakh insurance for auto drivers and a salary of ₹18,000 for priests and granthis.
Congress Joins the Fray
The Congress party has also entered the race with its Pyari Didi Yojana aimed at empowering women in Delhi. The party claims this scheme will be implemented in the first cabinet meeting if it comes to power. Congress has modeled this initiative on Karnataka's Griha Lakshmi Yojana which provides substantial benefits to women.
As the election date draws near, these announcements signal an intense battle for Delhi's voters with major promises from all parties aimed at securing the mandate.
