Arvind Kejriwal Reinstates Pension for Seniors, Here's How Much They Will Receive
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant move ahead of the elections, the Delhi government has announced the revival of old age pensions for thousands of senior citizens. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), revealed that 80,000 new old age pensions are being issued to elderly residents, with more than 5.3 lakh senior citizens in Delhi set to benefit from this initiative.
The pension scheme offers up to Rs 2,500 per month, making it one of the highest pension amounts in the country. The move is seen as a key step in the AAP government’s commitment to welfare for senior citizens. Kejriwal emphasized that the pension was being restored and expanded, marking a significant improvement from previous years.
In a post on social media platform X, AAP celebrated the initiative, calling it a "gift" to the elderly from Arvind Kejriwal. The announcement also highlighted that over 10,000 applications for pensions had been received in just the last 24 hours. The cabinet has already approved the scheme, which aims to support elderly citizens financially.
Kejriwal also noted that since the formation of the government in 2015, the pension amount has been increased, with Delhi now offering the highest pension in the country for senior citizens. The revival of this pension scheme reflects the Delhi government's ongoing efforts to support the welfare of the elderly in the city.
