Islamabad (The Uttam Hindu): A fire broke out in a residential colony in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province early on Monday, resulting in the death of five people and injuring 31 others. District police sources told Xinhua that the incident occurred in Multan district at approximately 12:25 PM local time, when a liquefied petroleum gas container leaked, causing a massive explosion in the colony.

The gas leak led to the fire and a violent explosion, the intensity of which caused debris to scatter over a wide area in the densely populated colony. The police confirmed that after extensive firefighting efforts, the fire has been brought under control. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, many of whom are in critical condition. Authorities are assessing the total damage caused by the explosion. The explosion also disrupted daily life in the surrounding area.

It is noteworthy that due to inadequate safety measures and poor infrastructure, gas explosion-related incidents have remained a major concern in Pakistan, often leading to tragic consequences.
