Brazilian Police Wear Power Ranger Costumes to Tackle Pickpockets at São Paulo Carnival
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a surprising turn of events, police in Sao Paulo donned costumes as Power Rangers to apprehend pickpockets during the Carnival festivities. As the city buzzed with music and merriment, numerous officers blended in as clowns, priests, and even well-known figures like Mario and Luigi.
Among them, six officers stood out as the beloved Power Rangers.
Since the Carnival kicked off on Saturday, these "Power Rangers" have been actively monitoring for thieves, particularly those snatching phones from unsuspecting partygoers.
The Yellow and Red Rangers successfully detained a man who was found with seven stolen cell phones. Meanwhile, the Green and Red Rangers tackled another suspect as excited onlookers cheered them on.
By Tuesday, law enforcement had arrested six individuals and recovered a total of 23 stolen mobile phones.
sao Paulo's governor shared this news on X, playfully referencing the classic 1990s superhero series, stating, "It’s the morphin’ time! The Power Rangers of our Civil Police are putting on another show at this carnival! Always on the alert, our heroes spotted suspicious activity in the crowd and, with a technique no ranger could criticize, they apprehended a criminal and retrieved seven cell phones in one swift move."

In a surprising twist, police in Sao Paulo were seen wearing full-body lycra suits in the classic colors of the Power Rangers—red, blue, yellow, and green—as they patrolled the Carnival festivities. One officer, dressed as the Black Power Ranger, proudly showcased the recovered stolen phones to the camera.
The initiative was part of a wider effort by law enforcement to reduce crime during the bustling Carnival celebrations, a period when large crowds can attract organized gangs looking to target unsuspecting individuals for theft.
Social Media Reactions
People from across the globe have commended the Brazilian police for their inventive strategy. One commenter exclaimed, "Go Go Power Rangers!" while another simply remarked, "Excellent!" A third person shared their astonishment, stating, "Wow, Power Rangers in real life!"
This isn't the first instance of law enforcement employing unconventional tactics to apprehend criminals. Back in February, an officer in Lima, Peru, conducted a drug raid while dressed as a capybara on Valentine's Day, successfully seizing over 1,700 drug packages. Additionally, Peru's police have previously disguised themselves as Marvel superheroes such as Spider-Man, Captain America, and Thor for similar operations.
