Nagpur (The Uttam Hindu): In a surprising turn of events in Nagpur, Maharashtra, police seized ₹41 lakh in cash from the trunk of a scooty during a vehicle check at a blockade. The two youths riding the scooty could not provide an explanation for the large sum, prompting the police to suspect that it could be linked to hawala transactions.

The incident occurred on January 1 at Shivaji Chowk, located in the Kotwali police station area, when the police were conducting routine checks on vehicles passing through a blockade. They noticed a scooty without a number plate and stopped it for inspection. Upon checking the trunk, they found ₹41 lakh in cash. The officers were taken aback by the amount and questioned the youths about its source but the youths could not provide any satisfactory explanation, which raised suspicions of illicit financial dealings.

Police suspect that the money could be linked to illegal transactions, possibly through the hawala network. DCP of Zone 3, Mahak Swami, confirmed that the two youths have been taken into custody. The Income Tax Department has been notified about the incident and the police have filed a case and initiated a detailed investigation. Authorities are trying to determine the origin and intended destination of the money, while also cracking down on illegal activities in the region. The police remain alert to the possibility of hawala operations being involved and are continuing their investigation.
