Lok Sabha Passes Waqf Bill, Introducing Major Reforms in Religious Trusts Management

Update: 2025-04-03 03:58 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Union Home Minister Amit Shah slammed opposition parties on Wednesday accusing them of spreading misconceptions about the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025. The bill which is set to be passed during the final days of Parliament's Budget Session sparked a heated debate between the ruling government and the opposition.

The opposition led by the INDIA bloc parties, united in their stand to "defeat the legislation," claiming it would harm the interests of minority communities. As tensions soared Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju moved a motion to consider the Bill with amendments, kickstarting the fiery debate.

The Bill first introduced last year had been sent to a joint parliamentary committee before being brought back for discussion. The stakes are high as the government pushes for its passage, despite fierce opposition resistance.

In the end it’s clear: Parliament’s going out with a bang and this Bill is the battleground.
