'Bulldozer Action' in Gujarat's 'Mini Bangladesh'; Over 800 Arrested in Major Crackdown — Watch Video
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Gujarat Police had arrested more than 1000 Bangladeshi citizens from Surat and Ahmedabad. Now the police has raided the Bangladeshi settlement near Chandola Lake. Under this campaign, AMC demolished illegal settlements near Chandola Lake. Regarding this campaign, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Sharad Singhal said that most Bangladeshis live in the Dola Lake area. Police has arrested more than 800 people by taking bulldozer action.
Ahmedabad Police had recently identified Bangladeshis living illegally in Chandola area. Anti-encroachment action has been taken in those Bangladeshi settlements where people are living illegally. As part of this action, AMC officers demolished the settlements in Chandola Lake area. Actually, the Home Ministry of Gujarat Government has given orders to demolish the huts of those Bangladeshis, which have been identified as illegal residences. In the first phase, AMC has decided to demolish the houses of Bangladeshis living illegally. Before running the bulldozer in Chandola Lake area, the police cut off the electricity of the entire area. After this, 50 JCB machines and 30 MMC dumpers were called. During this, more than 2000 policemen were present on the spot. During the action on the settlement, 800 suspects have been detained, out of which 143 have been identified as Bangladeshi citizens.
The action of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is being considered the biggest demolition drive in the history of Gujarat. People are seeing the action of AMC as a 'bulldozer strike' on 'Mini Bangladesh'. This demolition drive is being carried out by AMC, Police and Crime Branch under the name 'Operation Clean'.
