This Punjab City Set to Have Its First Female Mayor, Government Issues Official Notification

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): A significant update has come after the results of the municipal corporation elections in Punjab. The Punjab government has issued a notification announcing the appointment of a woman as the mayor.

The municipal corporation elections for five cities—Amritsar, Jalandhar, Phagwara, Ludhiana and Patiala—were held on December 21, 2024. According to the recently issued notification, the mayoral position for Ludhiana municipal corporation has been reserved for a woman.

In contrast, the mayoral posts in the other four municipal corporations will remain general. A notice has also been sent by the department to the Divisional Commissioner to ensure the reservation of Ludhiana's seat for a woman. If this happens, Ludhiana will have its first-ever female mayor.
