Punjab Village Bans Love Marriages, Migrant Weddings, and Imposes Strict Rules with Heavy Fines

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): The Panchayat of Jawaharke village in Mansa, Punjab, has brought in strict rules for its citizens. The proposals that passed with a unanimous vote ensure that any villager who marries a migrant is not allowed to stay in the village. Anyone breaking the rules of the Panchayat will face severe punishment. Also, love marriages are strictly banned in the village. The rules also mention that any local person who marries another villager will also be prohibited from staying there. In addition, any boy who is found standing listlessly at a bus stand during school hours will also be penalized. No one is allowed to stay in the village without having a purpose. The officials have clearly mentioned all this.

People who trade in drugs or drink liquors will be socially isolated. Vendors are banned from selling cigarettes or tobbaco to school students and anyone violating this has to pay a fine of Rs. 15,000. Villagers should not litter in the village or on public roads. Any person damaging or looting government property will also face action from the Panchayat.

The cremation grounds, parks, and water facilities in the village are restricted to dogs and goats. Those who bring animals to these places will have to clean up after them. A congratulatory fee of Rs. 1,100 will be charged for congratulating any visiting religious leader. The Guru house will only serve simple meals, and those who want to prepare sweets or fritters will have to deposit Rs. 3,000 with the Panchayat. Water bills for the water works must be settled; failure to do so will result in disconnection. A monthly cleaning fee of Rs. 50 for drains and Rs. 100 for general cleaning by women will also be charged.
