Punjab Pollution Control Board pushes for increased paddy straw use in CBG plants, assures industry support

Patiala (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Pollution Control Board in its drive for ex-situ management of stubble burning conducted a consultative meeting with the representative of Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants under the Chairmanship of (Prof.) Dr. Adarsh Pal Vig, Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board. During meeting Er. G.S Majithia, Member Secretary, Dr. Krunesh Garg, Chief Environmental Engineer (Air), Regional Officers of Punjab Pollution Control Board were present in the meeting.

Dr Garg, Chief Environmental Engineer appraised the industrialist to increase the use of the Paddy straw in the industries and there are 5 operational CBG plants consuming 1.8 lac MT and The representative of CBG plants were guided to take adequate measures for compliance of the Environmental norms. Er. G.S Majithia directed to CBG plants for maximum utilization paddy straw in their units.


Dr. Vig, encourages the industrialist to come forward and establish more CBG units for utilization of paddy straw. He assure that the regulatory clearances and subsidy will be given on priority basis.The by product produced from Paddy Stubble and CD is Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) of the gas production is for the utilized as manure by the farmers. Its quality can be improved by doing vermin composting of FOM using earth warms. About 200 representative from the Compressed Bio-Gas were present in the meeting. Various aspects for usage from paddy straw in the industrial units and issues/ challenges faced by the different industries discussed in detail.
