Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government in the country has always been committed to bringing dignified recognition to Dr BR Ambedkar through its projects, from Panchteerath development to designating November 26 as National Constitution Day.

Sh Tarun Chugh, the National general secretary of BJP, said while addressing a gathering at a program titled ''Ambedkar ko Samarpit Modi" organized by Sampla Foundation today. Sh Chugh said that giving a befitting tribute to the noble soul, the Modi government developed five key sites related to Baba Ambedkar. Dr Ambedkar's Janma Bhoomi in Mhow, his cremation place Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai, Shiksha Bhoomi – place in London where he studied while staying in the UK, Deeksha Bhoomi – the place in Nagpur where he embraced Buddhism and Mahaparibirvan Bhoomi – the place in Delhi where he passed away.

All five places have been developed besides observing Nov 26 as the National Constitution Day by highlighting Dr Ambedkar's role in drafting the Indian constitution. Apart from this several other measures have been taken to honor Dr Ambedkar – who has largely remained ignored during Congress rule in a country spanning more than six decades. Coming down heavily on the Congress government for ignoring Dr Ambekdar and pushing his iconic contributions to margins, Sh Vijay Sampla, former chairman National Commission for Schedule caste said that Congress has never accorded due respect to the leader. He added that the Congress betrayed Baba Ambedkar right from hostility in Lok Sabha to Dr Ambedkar resigning from Nehru cabinet and the party's mammoth failure to accord social justice to all groups of society – especially the marginalized Dalit community.

Quoting PM Sh Narendra Modi, former union minister Sampla reminisced that social justice is not an issue of talks, its BJP's commitment. Dr Ambedkar was given Bharat Ratna when the BJP supported VP Singh government. The Congress refused to install Dr Ambedkar's portrait in Parliament, saying that there was no space for it. Sarvhitkari Shisksha Samiti zonal organizing secretary Sh Desraj added that the Modi government has proven over the years that it stands by the right and mighty. He added that the BJP was trying to undo the damage Congress had inflicted on Dr Ambedkar over the past so many years.
