PM Modi’s chadar offering: A symbol of inclusivity and harmony amid religious diversity in India

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday presented a sacred 'Chadar' to be offered on his behalf at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah during the annual Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The gesture was highlighted by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju who shared it in a post on X (formerly Twitter) emphasizing Modi's deep respect for India's spiritual heritage and the message of harmony and compassion. This tradition which has been followed by every Prime Minister since 1947 continues under Modi's leadership. The offering symbolizes unity and respect for all communities reflecting India's long-standing culture of honoring diverse religious traditions. PM Modi's chadar will be presented on January 4 by Kiren Rijiju coinciding with the Urs celebrations which mark the death anniversary of the revered Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti also known as Khwaja Garib Nawaz.

Syed Naseruddin Chishti the successor of the Ajmer Dargah and Chairman of the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council praised the Prime Minister for upholding the ideals of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Samman (solidarity, development, trust and respect for all). He expressed gratitude for the consistent tradition of sending the chadar which sends a powerful message of inclusivity reinforcing India's pluralistic ethos in the face of divisive forces. Chishti also pointed out that the Ajmer Sharif Dargah is a beacon of unity transcending barriers of caste, creed and religion and attracting millions of devotees from across the world. He welcomed the chadar with great honor reiterating that it serves as a reminder of India's commitment to secularism collective harmony, and shared heritage. This act particularly in today's context reinforces the spirit of peace compassion and brotherhood that Khwaja Garib Nawaz championed.
