India Gears Up for Major Social Media Crackdown: New Law to Ban Obscene Content and Protect Children from Harmful Platforms!
New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu):The Indian government is preparing to introduce stricter laws targeting obscene content on social media, with an emphasis on protecting children from harmful material online. Children are increasingly addicted to social media, but alongside the educational and entertainment value, there is also the growing issue of inappropriate content. Given the impact this has on children’s mental health, stricter regulations are seen as crucial.
India is now taking a firm stance against explicit content on social media platforms. Minister of Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighted the rapid increase of such content and stressed the urgent need for stricter regulations. After detailed discussions in Parliament, a new law may be introduced soon.
In recent times, many children spend hours on social media, often neglecting their studies, which poses a significant concern for their well-being. Several countries have already implemented strict rules regarding social media usage, and India is following suit to protect younger users. Those posting obscene content will face severe consequences under the new regulations.
Australia has already taken a bold step in this direction by enacting a law that restricts children under 16 from using platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. This law is considered the first of its kind globally and is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard children from harmful online environments.
