New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a recent interview Mahant Shankaranand Saraswati president of Anand Akhada shared his views on several important issues including the controversy surrounding the term 'Shahi Snan,' the state of Sanatan Dharma and the significance of the Kumbh Mela. Addressing the 'Shahi Snan' debate Mahant Shankaranand explained that the term, historically used by kings and emperors with respect might be questioned by some today. He suggested that 'Amrit Snan' could serve as a suitable alternative, as it also connects with cultural values. "Any word linked to our culture is appropriate," he remarked.

Regarding RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statements, Mahant Shankaranand expressed his admiration for Bhagwat but stressed the importance of fully understanding the context before forming opinions. He also urged people to avoid political biases when discussing such matters. When asked about the potential threats to Sanatan Dharma Mahant Shankaranand confidently assured that it could never be endangered. "Whenever a crisis arises an avatar appears to protect it," he said. The presence of Muslim shopkeepers and government officials at the Kumbh Mela also came up in the conversation. While Mahant Shankaranand expressed no objections to Muslims participating, he emphasized the need to preserve the sanctity of the event. "We must maintain purity; if anyone’s actions conflict with our religious beliefs, we take steps to protect that sanctity," he stated. Mahant Shankaranand also clarified that the Dharma Sansad at Kumbh is meant to discuss the concept of a Hindu Nation, a significant topic that should not be politicized. He reiterated that the focus of the gathering is on protecting religion culture and faith.

He also spoke about the Ganga’s sacred water calling it naturally pure and fit for bathing but stressed the importance of measures to protect the river’s sanctity. On the issue of politics in religious events Mahant Shankaranand asserted that political matters should remain separate from religious gatherings like the Kumbh Mela though he welcomed leaders from all political parties. He emphasized that the event’s primary focus should be spiritual. Regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s promise of financial assistance to priests and pundits Mahant Shankaranand dismissed it as a political move stating, "Such promises should not be trusted." He also commented on Akhilesh Yadav’s financial assistance to the families of victims in the Sambhal violence calling it a politically motivated act that promotes vote bank politics not secularism. As for the Hindu Nation resolution discussed at Kumbh Mahant Shankaranand noted that it remains a demand to be addressed by the government at its discretion. Through these insights Mahant Shankaranand Saraswati continues to advocate for the protection of culture, faith, and religious purity, urging unity and respect for traditions.
