New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda has triggered a major controversy with his recent statement on China. Pitroda, known for his outspoken views, has said that India should stop considering China as an enemy, claiming that the issue has been exaggerated, particularly due to America’s portrayal of China as an adversary. Pitroda's comments came in response to a question regarding the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. He stated, "I am unable to understand what is the threat from China. I think this issue is always blown out of proportion because it is America's nature to portray itself as an enemy. I think the time has come when all countries should come together and not clash."The senior Congress leader went on to criticize India’s confrontational approach, saying, "Our attitude has been confrontational from the beginning, and this method creates enemies. In return, support is gained within the country. We have to change this mindset and stop believing that China is our enemy from day one.

This is wrong, and not only with China, but this is happening wrong with everyone."However, Pitroda's remarks have not gone unnoticed. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has quickly attacked the Congress leader’s statement. BJP spokesperson Tuhin Sinha slammed Pitroda, saying, "Those who gave away our 40 square kilometres of land to China do not see any threat from China. It is no surprise that Rahul Gandhi is afraid of China and was stressing on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) a day before the announcement of IMEEC." Sinha also referred to the Congress-CCP MoU signed in 2008, calling it the "secret" behind the party’s perceived closeness to China. Pitroda's comments come at a time when Indo-China relations remain tense, with both countries locked in long-standing border disputes. The remarks are likely to fuel further political debate as the issue of China continues to be a sensitive topic in Indian politics.
