Canada Tightens Immigration Checks: International Students, Especially Punjabis, Face Document Scrutiny
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): International students, especially Punjabi students studying in Canada, are facing increased difficulties. Canada's immigration department is requesting several documents from these students. Through emails, students are being asked to submit documents such as study permits, visas, educational records, grades, and attendance.
According to the department, the students' number suddenly increased following the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, some of the students entered the country with the wrong documents. Now, the department is investigating the cases and deporting the students.
This has caused an atmosphere of fear in students. Most of the students who came to Canada were helped by agents, and the information on their documents might not be very accurate. They fear being sent back to their countries. Officials at the department say this is an integral process and there is no reason for the students to get disturbed. They say that nothing can go wrong if all correct documents are submitted.
All necessary documents are requested to be submitted soon by the students so that these are accurately filled and do not possess incorrect information. In case there arises any kind of problem then a lawyer or advisor needs to be consulted. Indian students need to be alert at this moment of time. They must keep all the documents in their proper order and follow the instructions given by the department.
