AAP's Big Move: No Alliance for Delhi Elections, Kejriwal Stuns Opposition!

Update: 2024-12-01 09:24 GMT

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu):In a major political development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday that the party would not enter into any alliance for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. This decision has sent a shockwave through the opposition INDIA bloc. Kejriwal's announcement comes at a time when the political atmosphere in the national capital is heating up ahead of the elections, expected early next year. Currently, AAP holds 62 out of the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly. During a press conference, Kejriwal confirmed, “AAP will not form any alliance for the Delhi Assembly elections.” This statement follows Congress's earlier declaration to contest the elections independently. With AAP now deciding to go solo, the INDIA bloc appears to be facing a rift.

Kejiwal Criticizes Central Government Amid Personal Attacks

Kejriwal also took a stand against the repeated attacks on him, including a recent incident during a rally where a liquid substance was thrown at him. He stated, “The liquid thrown at me was harmless, but it could have been dangerous. This is the third such attack on me in the last 35 days.” He raised concerns about the safety of Delhi’s citizens, questioning whether the center’s actions would reassure traders and women in the city. Accusing the central government of targeting AAP rather than actual criminals, Kejriwal criticized the arrest of AAP MLA Naresh Balyan, who had previously reported extortion by gangsters. Kejriwal stated, "Instead of going after criminals, they are targeting our MLAs."

He called for strong action against real criminals to ensure the safety of Delhi's residents. The incident occurred during Kejriwal's padyatra in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, when a person threw a liquid at him, disrupting the security arrangements. Kejriwal also slammed BJP, accusing them of resorting to dishonesty, fearing their third consecutive loss in the upcoming Delhi elections.
